La Marzocco, renowned for its espresso machines, handmade-in-Florence, has successfully embraced digital innovation with the help of Cisco, while preserving its artisanal roots – and this has been the subject of the recent Cisco Italia event held at the Florentine company’s cultural hub, Accademia del Caffè Espresso. 

During this occasion, representatives of both the coffee equipment brand and the worldwide technology leader, debated on the advancements of digitalization.

In fact, back in 2019, La Marzocco embraced the “Smart Factory – Connectivity – Collaboration” projects, leveraging data and analytics for preventive and predictive maintenance with the support from Cisco.

By connecting coffee machines to the internet, La Marzocco today is now able monitor product usage and address potential issues before they arise, significantly enhancing production efficiency without compromising on craftsmanship.

Such digitalized integration has transformed manufacturing processes, enabling a more precise planning of resources and a better identification of inefficiencies – all while ensuring quality consistency and performance. 

The digital transformation at La Marzocco was driven by internal leaders who embraced the change and guided the company through it. This approach ensured a collaborative effort, fostering an understanding of digital technology’s impact across the organization.

Additionally, La Marzocco’s ConSenso project, in collaboration with Cisco and Pnat, aims to study the effects of climate change on Arabica coffee plantations in Tanzania using IoT sensors. This initiative not only helps develop climate adaptation strategies but also contributes to the sustainability of the entire coffee supply chain, showcasing the potential of digital technologies in enhancing traditional practices and driving innovation.
